First Consumption Advisory for Dungeness Crab and Spot Prawn from Puget Sound
Testing and analysis for a wide range of chemicals and contaminants was done on Dungeness crab and spot prawn from Puget Sound.
Analysis done by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), in partnership with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, was designed to determine where, how much and how often Puget Sound Dungeness crab or spot prawn can be safely eaten.
- Dungeness crab meat and spot prawn tails from many Puget Sound Marine Areas can be enjoyed safely with some limitations.
- However, crab butter and spot prawn heads have higher levels of contaminants and can only be safely eaten in a small number of areas and in limited amounts.
