The Department of Health replaced the Washington State Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS) with the Washington Health and Life Event System (WHALES) death registration system on February 7, 2024.
WHALES is the web application for filing vital records in Washington State. Funeral directors, providers, medical examiners, coroners, and local deputy registrars must use WHALES to complete and register a death record.
