Multistate Investigation of Severe Illnesses Associated with Eating Diamond ShruumzTM -Brand Products

Overview

Washington State Department of Health is working with local and federal public health partners to investigate a reported case of serious illness and hospitalization linked to recent consumption of Diamond Shruumz™ -brand infused products.

Due to illnesses reported in multiple states, Diamond Shruumz™-brand infused products were recalled on June 27, 2024. The recall includes all flavors and all styles of Diamond Shruumz™ -Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose).

Retailers are required to remove recalled products from sale, but it is possible recalled Diamond Shruumz™ products may still be available in stores. In addition, products were also distributed through mail so consumers may have recalled products at home.

Washington State Case Information

As of August 20, 2024, at least 2 Washington residents have been identified as cases who became ill after consuming one or more of these products.

Additional steps taken to protect the public:

  • Local health authorities have removed over 1,000 Diamond Shruumz™ products from the shelves in Washington
  • WA DOH has received a list of people who purchased Diamond Shruumz™ products directly from the company, and are working to notify these customers.

Washington Department of Health is working closely with Washington Poison Center, the Washington Liquor and Cannabis Control Board, the Washington Department of Agriculture, FDA and CDC on this investigation.

Potential Symptoms

People who have reported illnesses after consuming infused products, including Diamond Shruumz™-brand, have reported some or all of the following symptoms:

  • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
  • Fast or slow heart rate
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Coughing
  • Choking
  • Excessive sweating or secretions
  • Flushed skin
  • Trouble breathing
  • Hallucinations
  • Uncontrolled movements
  • Seizures
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Coma

Advice to Consumers

  • Do not purchase Diamond Shruumz™-brand Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose). All Diamond Shruumz™™ products were recalled by the company on June 27, 2024, but there may still be some of these products available for purchase on the shelves in some Washington stores. Officials are actively working to remove these products.
  • If you have purchased any flavor or style of recalled Diamond Shruumz™ Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose) either in a store or online – do not eat them. ALL Diamond Shruumz™-brand products are potentially unsafe. Instead, please safely discard these products by destroying them or otherwise marking them as poisonous. Take care to keep discarded product away from children. Contact the company directly for a refund.
  • Seek medical attention if you become ill after consuming any Diamond Shruumz-brand products, or any other brand of mushroom-containing, “microdose” or hallucinogenic edible product. Be especially alert and seek immediate medical care for serious symptoms like seizures, changes in mental status, loss of consciousness, or trouble breathing.
  • Remember to always store edibles and other products that contain mushrooms, THC, or CBD safely away from children. Children may mistake some edibles for candy.
  • Report all cases of symptoms after eating Diamond Shruumz™-brand or other brands of mushroom-containing “microdose,” “tripping,” or hallucinogenic products to the Washington Poison Center by calling 1-800-222-1222
  • Consumers are also encouraged to report adverse events related to Diamond Shruumz™-brand products to FDA MedWatch

Advice to Retailers

  • Retailers may not sell any recalled Diamond Shruumz™-brand infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose). ALL types of Diamond Shruumz ™ products are recalled at this time.
  • If you identify product in your store, immediately remove it from shelves. Hold the product in a secure location and contact the recalling company to initiate the return and refund.
  • Consider placing a recall notice in your store to notify customers.

Foods

  • ALL flavors and styles of Diamond Shruumz™-brand infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose) are recalled at this time.
  • Note that other brands of mushroom-containing “microdose,” “tripping,” or hallucinogenic products could cause similar health problems. Report all cases of illness to that occur after you consume these types of products to WA Poison Center by calling 1-800-222-1222
