Join Our Committee!
The Washington State Department of Health is looking for 9-12 young people (ages 16-25) to join our youth advisory committee for a 4-month commitment. You'll help us design a participatory budgeting process (watch the Participatory Budgeting Project video to learn more) that will fund projects for environmental justice. As a member, you will work with other young people and supportive leaders to share your thoughts on how we should design a process for community members to decide and vote on projects that focus on making the environment safer and healthier for all.
What’s in it for you?
- Learn more about environmental justice and how it affects your community.
- Understand how different communities experience environmental challenges.
- Use your personal experience to help shape how we fund projects for environmental justice.
- Get a behind-the-scenes look at how government funding works and how it can be used fairly.
- Learn about government rules for community projects.
What You’ll Get
- A stipend of $1,350 for your time.
- A chance to meet people from different government agencies.
Who We’re Looking For
We want young people who care about making their communities better, especially when it comes to environmental justice. You don’t need any special skills—just an interest in helping to guide how resources are shared and a desire to learn more about environmental justice in Washington.
All are welcome to apply, however, we do encourage applications from folks with close connections to three of our priority communities: Yakima County, Spokane’s East Central neighborhood, and Tacoma.
Time Commitment
This is a 4-month opportunity in 2025 from February 1 to May 30 where you’ll be asked to meet weekly for 90 minutes to 2 hours and participate in discussions and activities that help shape the future of environmental justice funding.
Interested?
Fill out our easy application! We’re excited to see what you have to share and to have you be part of this important work. Applications due December 6, 2024. If you have challenges meeting this date, please contact us at the email address below.
