Investigations
The department investigates migrant farmworker housing sites including:
- The health and safety of the housing and site
- Overcrowding of the housing
- Unlicensed housing
When we receive a complaint and determine an investigation is needed, we conduct an unannounced investigation of the housing. The investigation findings are reviewed and we determine what action to take.
The department may take action such as: close the case, continue the investigation, issue a compliance plan, or take legal action such as issuing a fine, revoking the license or closing the facility.
The department may conduct follow-up inspections to verify corrections have been made or that the facility has closed.
Coordination
Often the department works with other agencies that also have jurisdiction. When appropriate, the department will jointly investigate a site with other agencies including:
- Employment Security Department
- Labor & Industries, Division of Occupational Safety and Health
- Law enforcement
- Local health department/district
- Local building/zoning department
- U.S. Department of Labor
